Temporary - Permanent Residence
1- Temporary Residence (2 years)
To live in Paraguay for 24 months, and necessary to obtain the identity card and tax residency in Paraguay.
2- Paraguayan Identity Card
Official identity document for resident foreigners.
Essential requirement for obtaining tax residency.
3- Documents required to obtain temporary residence and identity card:
- Birth certificate (apostilled)
- Marriage certificate (if applicable, apostilled)
- Criminal record certificate (apostilled)
4- Next step: Tax Residency (optional)
- It is processed using a Paraguayan ID card.
- It allows you to prove tax residency and present documents to foreign banks.
5- Permanent Residence
You can apply after 2 years of having temporary residence.
Benefits:
- Right to remain in Paraguay without time limit.
- The ID card only needs to be renewed every 10 years.
- It allows you to continue with tax residency in Paraguay.
TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PROCESS
Standard Option – Two visits to Paraguay
- Trip 1: Temporary residence procedure (2 business days in Asunción)
- Wait: Residency ready in approx. 45 days
- Trip 2: Fingerprinting for ID card (1 day in Asunción)
- Delivery: We will send you your ID card 40 days later.
Express Option (one visit to Paraguay only)
- 3 days in Asunción → residency and fingerprints for the ID card in the same trip
- Once your residency is ready, we’ll take your file to the Identification Department so they can issue your ID card.
- Delivery: We will send your document by mail, 90 days after your first visit.
